Lead Service Replacement

If you own a home, it is advised that you replace any lead water pipes, service lines or fixtures, especially if there are children or women who may be pregnant.

From the CDC:

  • The EPA has set the maximum contaminant level goal for lead at ZERO!
     

  • Lead cannot be seen, tasted or smelled in drinking water
     

  • Boiling water will NOT reduce the amount of lead in your water

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO

  • Talk to your child's doctor about testing for lead and about lead exposure
     

  • Use cold water for cooking and drinking
     

  • Contact your local water department about your water line

From Mass.gov:

  • Infants, young children and pregnant women are especially vulnerable to the harmful effects of lead exposure

  • Most public water sources in are lead-free in MA, but lead can still be in your water due to lead pipes.

  • Lead can get into your body from drinking or cooking with water from lead pipes.
